WHO ARE BEDWORTH SINGERS?

Well, we are a mixed choir and a friendly group who just enjoy making music.

Our members have wide ranging musical tastes so we try to cater for everyone and perform as wide a range of musical styles as possible.

Here’s a taste of what we’ve done in the last year with our current musical director, Hilary Griffiths ...

Our October 2010 concert had an American theme. Songs we sang included Barbara Ann, Java Jive, Battle Hymn of the Republic, Bridge over Troubled Water, All my Trials and a medley of songs from Bernstein’s West Side Story

Christmas 2010 heard us celebrating “Christmas Around the World” with songs such as Riu, Riu, Chiu (Spain) which became a choir “favourite”; Carol of the Bells (Ukraine), Te Harinui (New Zealand), Hey Motswala (Africa)

In April 2011 our main focus was John Rutter’s Requiem. We also performed Handel’s Zadok the Priest; J.S. Bach’s Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring; Rachmaninov’s Bogoroditse Devo (from Russian Vespers) a truly beautiful piece of choral music, and yes we sang in Russian!

In July 2011 we went on a “Musical Journey around the British Isles” with Sumer is Icumen In; O, No John! ; Ellan Vannin (Isle of Man); The Eriskay Love Lilt; Londonderry Air; All Through the Night, MacTavish (another choir “favourite”!) and Water of Tyne.  On our journey we were joined by Bedworth Wind Band – the first of many associations, we hope. (We used this concert to raise awareness of and money for The Friendship Project for Children. The organization, celebrating its 25th Anniversary this year, exists to provide support and guidance to children in the North and South Warwickshire area).

On Saturday 10th December we returned  to St James’s Primary School, Bulkington for a joint concert with St James’s Concert Choir and the Nuneaton branch of the Society of Recorder Players. We called this ‘Rejoice and be Merry’.

On Thursday 15th December we were at St John’s Methodist Church, Nuneaton with a revised version of ‘Rejoice and be Merry’.

SO WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD FOR US?

Saturday 25th February 2012 Vivaldi’s Gloria with Warwickshire’s own Orchestra of the Swan in a concert at Bedworth Civic Hall.

‘Name that Tune’  is the theme of our Summer concert in 2012.  If you haven’t guessed, all the pieces we perform will have a name in them somewhere.

Stainer’s Crucifixion is planned for Easter 2013.

And, ‘Night and Day’ is the theme for Summer 2013.

2014 will see us celebrating our 40th Birthday—not sure how yet so watch this space!

We are always pleased to welcome new members.

There’s no audition - no experience is necessary – no need to read music - just a desire to sing with like-minded people.

Rehearsals take place at Canon Maggs School, Derwent Road, Bedworth, CV12 8RT each Thursday (usually during term time) from 7.30 - 9.30 pm.

Subs are £45 per annum (pay termly if you wish) (New members pay nothing for the first term.)
